MMO survey.. fill out and post a reply!.. or just send it to other MMO gamers you know.

1. what was the first MMORPG you started playing?
I first started playing Dark age of chamelot.. then Final fantasy online.. then went on to World of Warcraft. I Have briefly flirted with RF online.. but didn’t really get into it.

2. What MMO(s) are you currently playing?
Currently playing World of warcraft.. it’s the only game that I can really afford right now.



3. What is your favorite race in that game?
Well.. I always loved playing Tauren or undead.. but I don’t know very many Horde players.. so I played a lot of dwarves, or the new Draenei. I am kinda short and stocky so I could identify with dwarves.

4. What is your least favorite race in that game?
Night Elves. Night elves are really big with all the young twinks in the game, they almost always play one. I don’t care much for humans, because I don’t feel they have enough variety in their looks.


5. What is your favorite class in that game?
Currently.. Mage. But I have played a lot of different pet classes… like hunters and warlocks.

6. What is your least favorite class in that game?
Warriors and priests. They are too essential. You cannot have a group without one and they are incredibly boring to play. I played a healer class in previous games and without a good group.. leveling took forever.


7. What is it that first attracted you to that game? No xp on death. Many of the previous games I played.. would waste vast amounts of time spent grinding by one careless death.

8. Why did you leave the others games you used to play? I can’t stand wasting my time. In Final fantasy and DAoC, I would spend hours grinding.. just to have some idiot join our group an get us killed. All of that hard won xp would go up in smoke because someone else didn’t have their shit together. As a healer.. that was constantly going on.

9. How many hours per week do you spend “online?”.. currently?.. 12-16 hours/week… during summer and breaks in classes I would spend closer 20-30.

10. If you could, would you work for the game company that makes your favorite MMORPG? Why/ why not? I used to think so, but now after having heard so many horror stories I probably wouldn’t. Not to mention, it is a business after all, and your not their to play, your there to work.

11. Have you ever had to sacrifice necessities to continue your online account? Fortunately not. I’ve always kept enough in the account to cover and I live with family while I go to school.. so the rest of my bases are covered.

12. Do you have a player classification inside your favorite game? (Raider/Roleplayer/Pvp monkey.. etc)
I would class myself as a Roleplayer.. with a bit of Raid-monkey tacked on.


13. Are you a member of a player organization? (guild or other group)
Yes.. I am currently a member of one guild.. and I also helped found another on a different server.

14. Have you ever had an “online relationship” through an MMORPG?
I always try to avoid that sort of thing. It gets silly and I was burned by an “online” relationship outside of MMORPG’s before. Roleplaying can get sort of intense however.. and during a very intimate moment.. the lines can get a little grey.

15. Have you ever played an opposite gender character from your own? Why/ why not? Yes.. Because I get tired of constantly seeing guy’s butts. I could use some eye candy now and then.

16. If you have played an opposite gender, have you ever pretended to be a player of that gender? Why/why not?

No.. that’s just F’d up. I know enough to not develop any emotional attachment online, but there are a lot of younger immature players online. Toying around and pulling emotional strings like that, is just not right.

17. What is your relationship with your own faction of the MMO?.. what about the opposite faction? I have a good relationship with the Alliance.. but I have to sigh and shake my head sometimes at other players. I try to promote an atmosphere of sportsmanship and honorable behavior.. but I am obviously a minority in that respect.

18. Is there a need that is being satisfied with online play?

I suppose there would have to be. Life is simple online.. you need money you go out and hunt.. you need a mount.. you kill monsters and do quests.. you want cool stuff, you look for the critters that carry it. Life in the real world is so much more complex.. even something as simple as getting money involves job-hunting.. paperwork.. insurance.. taxes.. blah blah blah .. so forth and so on. ..

19. Do you feel that your relationships outside of gaming are affected by MMORPG(s)? To some extent.. but then again, it’s a hell of a lot better then just sitting in front of the TV night and day. At least with an MMORPG there is some sort of interaction.

20. Have you ever met someone online that you would have considered going out with/dating?. See the previous question about online relationships for this one.

21. Have you lost a girlfriend/boyfriend or significant other because of your online gaming? .. nope


22. Do you feel that it is possible to be “addicted” to MMORPG(s)?.. and would you consider yourself addicted?
Is it possible? Sure.. anything done to excess can be addicting. But there was a similar controversy when the TV became a big deal.. then computers. As a society we just have to find a happy balance.. I am addicted to escapism when the pressure is on.. and Wow can be part of that.. but only if I let it be.

23. Have you ever done something to another player that you later look back on and thought of as “cheap-shot” or “griefing?” I think I did it once on accident. But I never intentially grief or cheap-shot someone.

24. Have you ever gathered together online for a purely social function? I tried to.. but it didn’t work out to well. Online gamers have a terrible tendancy to be a touch on the lazy side. .. myself included.

25. Do you pay for your account on a month to month basis.. or do you prepay months in advance? I previously paid in advance.. now I am going month to month.

26. Have you ever left an MMORPG and come back?
Several times. I keep coming back to warcraft because there are others I know.. but that is not so much the case anymore.

27. Have you ever had a personal fight/ or disagreement with someone on an MMORPG that forced you to quit or otherwise walk away from it?
Very near to it. Arguments are very personal to me, and I find it difficult to play with someone I have had an argument with.. It’s a matter of trust.

28. Are your friends who play with you, mostly local or long distance?
Former long distance.. but I have come to know more local gamers.

29. Do you still see yourself playing this game a year from now?.. how about 5 years from now? One year.. sure. 5 years.. probably not.

30. Do you feel that your online gaming has affected you physically and/or emotionally?.. how?
I’ve put on a bit of weight because of it. But it does provide a great deal of emotional comfort.. an island of stability in an otherwise turbulent life.
